Abstract

Cities are changing because of movement of people out from the centre, increased suburbanization and desire for spacious residences and job opportunities. This change has created an impact on journey-to-work by choosing a public mode of transport system to convenient to travel, affordable travel by car. There is a demand for parking spaces as a part of space management. It is found that lack of knowledge of motorists regarding valid parking spaces cause increased traffic congestion. As we know, awareness of any system is necessary for efficient utilization of that system, the knowledge of infrastructure availability of parking avenues is first step towards facilitating parking space. The paper presents a solution to the driver, which is capable of analyzing the availability of vacant slots in a given parking space based on digital image processing techniques combined with an Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Further analytics of the solution are used to create interfaces that can make its users aware of the vacant parking slots in and around their area of travel.
