Abstract

It is shown that point dipoles in a superfluid obeying the Landau dispersion relation for rotons can form stable bound states. Structure is added to the roton model by adding the octupole moment appropriate to a vortex ring. The binding energy is then computed to be 0.337°K. Scattering appears to be satisfactorily accounted for by the dipole approximation. © 1973.
