Abstract

The study aimed to explain the development of ecotourism management strategies in Pulau Merah beach, Banyuwangi regency, Indonesia. Various aspects need to be considered by local government to increase tourism visit by monitoring 1) the increasing number of visitors, 2) estimated days of stay, and 3) cultural involvement as a tourist attraction. As natural tourist destination, Pulau Merah beach also are able to support the environment. It needed to be considered by the tour manager, so that ecotourism strategy needs to be applied. The research was used descriptive method with qualitative and quantitative techniques. The data used primary data through in-depth interview and secondary data through literature, documentation, and publication of tourism management. Process Hierarchy Analysis (AHP) was used to measure the implementation of ecotourism strategy in Pulau Merah beach. Through the research, an alternative policy and development should be considered by the local government and communities to support the environment and ensure the sustainability of natural tourism quality. Therefore, ecotourism policy becomes one of the main alternatives as a result of data collection and analysis following the urgency of the field so that it highly recommended to be applied.
