Abstract

This paper discusses a problem with the multipath TCP transmission of large data objects in a computing cloud using the MPTCP protocol. The problem presented itself when a file transfer and the migration of a live virtual machine was observed. Experiments were carried out in a private cloud, built using the OpenStack software tool. Nodes of the test network were connected by Gigabit Ethernet links. Results show that while usage of the MPTCP gives an efficient file transfer and migration, the protocol is not able to fully exploit the potential of unloaded, high-speed paths due to restrictive congestion control.
