Abstract

The present paper discusses an urgent need for Central Asian countries and the Asian part of Russia to develop uniform principles for monitoring and creating a reliable data bank on water quality. In Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union, the control over water quality and quantity is conducted by a number of state agencies. These agencies have different standards for water sampling and analysis which cause substantial problems in coordination of their activities. This coordination can be improved by the establishment of water standards and the development of a unified technique for water sampling, analysis and processing of the data.
