Abstract

Open fractures have for a long time lost the stigma of being a lethal injury. Nevertheless, considering the fact that, in our practice, some 52% of patients with open fractures have sustained multiple injuries, these patients still run a relatively high risk of death or disability. At 8.3%, the mortality rate among open-fracture patients is still significant.
