The daily work of the surgeon relies heavily on technology for both efficiency and enablement. Outside the operating room, surgeons rely on technology to make diagnoses with sophisticated imaging equipment, to quickly transmit patient information, and to monitor patients. In the operating room, the use of technology is obvious: the Bovie, the videoscopic equipment used in laparoscopy and endoscopy, staplers, and, most recently, robots. © 2008 Springer New York.
