Abstract

This chapter introduces the volume by providing foundational knowledge related to bilingual education in the state of Texas with a focus on racial injustice in Mexican American immigrant communities. The chapter also provides a discussion of Latinx students and their academic needs, a Latinx critical race theory framework to consider inequities confronting Latinx children in public schools, and a brief overview of the efficacy of dual language education.
