Abstract

This volume presents contributions by distinguished French and American scholars who consider the influence of imagination over money as expressed in literature and the corollary evolution of Western conceptions of money. Humanists, economists, philosophers, legal experts, and political scientists discuss money's transformation from metal to paper and all other aspects of the development of money economics in early modern and modern times. These works were originally presented at an international conference at Le Mans University on the human preoccupation with money.
