Abstract

When it comes to civil religion as one important “social kit” of globalized societies, paradoxa between the two pillars of global democracy—both sides of the Atlantic—abound. For example, a paradoxical difference between Europe and the United States is that Europe has no comparable unifying civil religion, i.e., no common public rational sphere and no joint media sphere which could support, transport and disseminate common civic ideals.
