Faced with the challenge still in force for theology to integrate, in a systematic and methodologically grounded way, the current religious experience within its knowledge generation processes, the following article proposes the so-called Empirical Theology as a possible response to this challenge. To do so, its main pre-assumptions and its methodology are presented as systematized by J. van der Ven, one of its main exponents, followed by an analysis of the most relevant contributions of this proposal to the problem initially raised.
