Abstract

This study aims to review the readiness of the student teachers towards the implementation of Pedagogical Capacity for Deep Learning (PCDL). The focus of the study is to find out the extent of the student teachers' knowledge and skill aspects in implementing the Pedagogical Capacity of Meaningful Learning, and the conception of student teachers towards the implementation of PCDL in real situations in the classroom. The respondents of this study consisted of 85 final year student teachers from the Bachelor of Education Program June Cohort (2018-2022) at one of the teacher educational institutions in Kuala Lumpur. This survey research uses a questionnaire that covers the main construct that consist of the aspect of knowledge of the implementation of PCDL, skills in the implementation of PCDL and their conception of PCDL with a value of α=0.7. The research findings are analyzed descriptively based on the objectives and research questions. The findings of the study give implications that student teachers need to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to implement PCDL so that they are confident in unpacking the curriculum and practicing those skills for their self-learning process and for the purpose of applying theory to practice later. The study also implies that student teachers' understanding of PCDL gives them confidence and encourages them to be critical and creative in dealing with specific issues in teaching and learning in the classroom.
