[Context and motivation] Adaptive Service Based Applications (SBAs) need to cope with continuously changing environments. Monitoring becomes a key requirement for engineering Adaptive SBAs. [Question/problem] Ongoing research on Requirements Engineering (RE) for Adaptive SBAs strives to answer challenging questions such as how to monitor changes affecting user's requirements? and how the monitored information helps in adapting to the candidate solutions? [Principal ideas/results] Existing approaches and techniques to specify requirements monitoring for Adaptive SBAs are either formal or specialized to a particular domain. A convenient and easy approach to specify requirements monitoring for Adaptive SBAs is still missing. In this paper, we focus on this issue. [Contribution] We describe a systematic approach for deriving requirements monitoring specifications for the running Adaptive SBA. We use a running example from a travel domain case study to elaborate our approach. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
