Abstract

A rigorous method is presented for calculating acoustic velocities for natural gas. It is based on a generalized equation of state for natural gas that may also be used to calculate many other thermodynamic properties. Extensions of the pseudocritical temperature and pseudocritical pressure vs gas gravity correlations to higher gravities are also presented. Acoustically determined liquid levels for 57 gas well readings for well pressures from 200 to 2200 psia result in an average error of 0. 71%.
