Abstract

Basic and clinical research findings are presented on the effect of armed conflicts on the veterans of such conflicts. 'Veterans' are defined as people who were participants—whether as active combatants of in support roles—in wars or related activities. The overall focus is on the mental health and functional outcomes of exposure to war stress emanating from studies of war and veterans. The body of research examining the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of posttraumatic stress disorders is highlighted. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
