Abstract

Provided a systematic approach to assessment and management of patients immediately following aortic valve (AV) surgery is used, the post-operative course is usually straightforward. However, as the patient population ages and concomitantly the number of co-morbidities (cardiac and noncardiac) rises, increasingly complex patients will require post-operative management on the intensive care unit (ICU).
