Abstract

Augmented reality has become very popular in the mobile computing world. Many platforms have emerged, that offer a wide variety of tools for creating and presenting content to the users, however all of them use proprietary technologies that lack standardization. On the other hand the latest developments in the suite of web standards offer all the capabilities required for building augmented reality applications. This paper offers a different approach of implementing augmented reality applications using only web technologies which enables standardization and platform independence. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
