Abstract

Mentoring has a long, varied history in the trades and professions, and the developmental or mentoring relationship is seen as critical in many fields and disciplines. Though it might be fair to assume that schools and universities take a developmental view of student learning within their institutions, senior faculty have been accused of eating their young when initiating new faculty who get the most challenging teaching assignments and undesirable duties.
