Abstract

It is shown that with one full cycle of a suitable attosecond laser pulse it is possible to detach the ground-state electrons from, an atom and deposit them, with their wavefunction largely unchanged, as a wavepacket removed spatially from the nucleus and whose centre of charge is stationary with respect to the nucleus. © IOP Publishing Ltd and Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft.
