Abstract

In the largest review of endovascular treatments for pediatric AIS to date, we found improved recanalization rates and clinical outcomes, favoring IA mechanical thrombectomy. Even with a frequently delayed presentation, at a young age, and posterior circulation strokes, endovascular treatment seems to be relatively safe and technically feasible. In select populations, we recommend careful consideration of endovascular treatment for pediatric AIS patients with large vessel occlusions by experienced neurointerventionalists. Although the results of this case review are promising, prospective data need to be collected on endovascular stroke management in children.
