Abstract

Development of the concept of Industry 4.0, dictated by the need to reverse the trend of decline in industrial production of European enterprises, is forcing modern enterprises, especially the SME sector, to adapt quickly and flexibly to changing demand conditions and to reduce production costs and search for new business solutions. As part of the proposed Industry 4.0 concept, there is a close connection between physical objects and information network. Sophisticated enterprise networks are created, connected by intelligent resources, communicating over the Internet. The aim of this chapter is to identify the limitations and possibilities of Polish small- and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises aimed at cooperation within the Industry 4.0 concept. In addition, the chapter presents the concept of a platform for exchanging production capacity of SMEs which can support the implementation of the Industry 4.0 concept.
