Abstract

This paper describes applying a new EMO algorithm for a real-world optimization problem arising from wastewater treatment. In addition, the results are compared to the ones obtained by applying the interactive multiobjective optimization tool IND-NIMBUS to the same problem. How the comparison should be made is not self-evident but we try to highlight the pros and cons of both the evolutionary multiobjective optimization and the multiple criteria decision making fields in the context of the wastewater treatment plant design problem considered. © Springer-Verlag 2009.
