Abstract

This chapter presents the application of physicomimetic swarms for detecting and monitoring bioluminescent aquatic environments. The chapter begins with the problem definition. It then presents a NetLogo simulation along with hypotheses and experiments for testing these hypotheses. Experimental conclusions are drawn that guide the practitioner. Theoretical results are also included for guidance in setting the values of swarm agent parameters. Another, more sophisticated, simulation is then presented that fills the gap between the relatively simple NetLogo simulator and the real-world hardware agents. The chapter concludes with a description of the actual hardware agents and the aquatic environments in which they are run.
