Abstract

This chapter describes common causes of recurrence of groin hernias and their prevention. Techniques for performing open repair of recurrent hernias are then described. See Chap. 109 for laparoscopic techniques. Open preperitoneal repair, a surgical legacy technique, is also described here. This chapter includes information on indications, preoperative preparation, operative strategy and technique, postoperative care, and complications.
