Abstract

Trauma-informed child welfare practice must also include the dimension of organizational responsiveness to the effects of indirect trauma upon staff. Supervision must be considered primary among those supportive strategies. This chapter describes a supervisory approach to mitigating the effects of indirect trauma that can be immediately applied within an operational competency framework. The framework includes both a description of the qualities of effective supervision for indirect trauma, and the competencies, or content, of the supervisory approach.
