A survey is an essential element in any skin exposure risk assessment. Adequate preparation is important for a successful survey. The survey is also important when investigating a suspected occupational skin disease. A workplace survey needs to involve those who are familiar with the process and equipment. Although direct measurement of skin exposure is seldom practical, other measurements are frequently useful. It is important to obtain information on the complete process, including evidence of unexpected and unplanned events.
