Abstract

Type 1 (formerly insulin-dependent or juvenile-onset) diabetes mellitus is a complex, chronic disease. The management of type 1 diabetes melliltus (T1DM) is especially challenging for adolescents, who consistently have been found to have problems with adherence and metabolic control (e.g., Anderson, Auslander, Jung, Miller, & Santiago, 1990; La Greca, Follansbee, & Skyler, 1990; La Greca, Auslander, et al., 1995). © 2009 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
