Compared the efficiency of protecting Pinus sylvestris against the large pine weevil using deltamethrin by dipping seedlings before planting and by spraying after planting. Dipped seedlings were less frequently damaged and were protected by ten times the quantity of active insecticide ingredient than sprayed plants. Experiments were also carried out to analyse the application of deltamethrin in the protection of wood before bark stripping against Tomicus piniperda (pine-shoot beetle). Analysis showed a high degree of insecticide persistence and thus the possibility of efficient protective treatment 2-3 wk before the swarming period. -from Authors
