Abstract

Mentor, friend, artist, collaborator: this is the practice between supervisor and student in this chapter. This chapter explores the evolution of our supervisory relationship within the context of a practice-led Ph.D., aligning the three stages of our chronological development with Socratic dialogue, Freirian critical reflection and finally Wenger’s articulation of a community of practice. These philosophers have provided us with a scholarly language to analyse and frame our evolving supervision landscape, and to articulate how a community of practice can reflect and embrace the discourses and practices of a practice-led research methodology.
