Abstract

This chapter aims to highlight the main conclusions and recommendations that can be extracted from the chapters contributed to this book. It includes a brief information on some distinguished studies that used remote sensing (RS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) techniques for environmental applications in some sites in Iraq. It also throws light on the role of remotely sensed dataset, remote sensing and GIS technologies for modeling, mapping, characterizing of soil properties, proximal soil sensing, land cover/land use change monitoring, land degradation, drought, sand dunes, dust storms, as well as to hydraulic modeling, climate change, and forest fires. The current chapter includes set of recommendations for the future works that aim to get benefits from the facilities and the capabilities of remote sensing and GIS technologies toward the environmental sectors in Iraq, which are the most vital issues in the present and the future of Iraq.
