Abstract

Proximal tibial fractures were first described by Sir Astley Cooper in 1825. Since the early attempt at classifying tibial plateau fractures by Muller in 1990, there have been ~10 classification systems of proximal tibial and fibular fractures proposed by researchers; among them, the Schatzker classification is the most commonly cited system, followed by the AO/OTA classification according to our 5-year literature review.
