Abstract

The huge sediment-hosted Cu deposits at Olympic Dam and Mt Isa are unusual. They formed epigenetically from hydrothermal fluids as did other important Australian deposits. At Mt Gunson the deposit was formed at low T and incorporated biogenic S. Bedded-disseminated mineralization, common in S Australia, formed by reaction of Cu-bearing fluids with biogenic H2S and early diagenetic iron sulphides. Stratiform Cu mineralization has not been economically important yet in Australia.-R.E.S.
