This paper discusses the possible trends of BMS (building management systems) in the future. Should BMS become simpler, with a more user-friendly interface, or should the systems become more complicated in order to meet their full potential? The author summarizes the opinions of several experts. The evolution of BMS is also described. Intelligence has been distributed around the building, purpose made central station have been replaced by personal computers. This paper addresses several interesting questions about BMS such as, 'who are the players in the game,' 'will we see BMS controlling fire,' and 'what will the BMS of the year 2001 be like.'
