Abstract

Kata kunci: Lama penggunaan ventilator, frekuensi oral hygiene, VAP Backgorund :Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is one of disease which is happened to patient who used mechanical ventilator after 48 hours, through endotracheal tube or tracheostomy tube. VAP can be influenced by some risk factors such as long of ventilator usage. Right strategy and management are needed to reduce VAP by doing oral hygiene treatment. Purpose : This research aimed to analyze mechanical ventilator long usage and oral hygiene frequency toward VAP in ICU. Method : This research used descriptive correlation using cross sectional sampling which included 22 respondents by using simple random sampling. Results : Spearman Rank test, resulted p value 0,131 (>0,05), correlation coefficient (r) 0,332 for correlation between mechanical ventilator long usage and VAP, then p value (0,0000 (<0,05) and score r (0,869) for correlation between oral hygiene frequency and VAP Conclusion : There was no correlation between long usage of mechanical ventilator and VAP, and there was a relation between oral hygiene frequency and VAP cases that had strong relation. Suggestion : health workers can implement oral hygiene as a guide to give a treatment for patients with ventilator as a VAP prevention.
