For pragmatic philosophy, what seems like a conclusion is really only a new beginning: the consummation of what has preceded provides only a momentary platform for dealing with the ever-changing needs of the present. Thus, knowledge is always temporal, wed to the particular conditions under which it is gained and to which it is applied and, accordingly, is temporary, awaiting future use. Without use, knowledge is lost or meaningless.1
