Abstract

The two-year Gateway project, carried out by partners from four European countries, aimed to provide a comprehensive and unbiased source of information on Assistive Technology (AT) for young people seeking education and employment. Major target audiences were also educators/ guidance practitioners and employers. After research, content was first collected and filtered, and then published in English, French, Slovak and Slovene on the Gateway website at http://www.gateway2at.org. The website features exhaustive practical information on available AT solutions, disabilities in general, case studies of successful AT users, and advice on AT use, funding and supply. In the development phase, much effort was made to ensure proper accessibility of the website itself. Principles of user-friendly design were respected and accompanied by advanced options like special page views for the disabled. Gateway web content is expected to be of great help to all target groups independent of their capabilities.
