Abstract

During secondary forest succession in Central Europe, generated by plant inherent factors, waves of growth forms replace each other. Increasing above-and below-ground competition necessitates more efficient plant economy in later species replacing earlier ones. Predictions from measured growth economy correlate with actual observations.
