Abstract

Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a standard procedure for determining body composition, consisting of: Body Fat (BF), Total Body Water (TBW) and Lean Body Mass (LBM), which comprises Extra Cellular Mass (ECM) and Body Cell Mass (BCM). To determine BIA, a harmless alternating current passes through the organism. The impedance (total resistance) and the phase shifting are measured with this standard procedure. Under optimum conditions valid results may be received provided possible errors are are factored in. The BIA is an ideal standard for monitoring patient development. © Verlag für GanzheitsMedizin, Basel.
