The Impact of Behaviorism on Educational Psychology

Abstract

Contemporary behavior modification in educational psychology can be traced to a philosophy of science called behaviorism that holds that psychology is the study of individual behavior in interaction with the environment. Behavior involves the total functioning of an individual as he or she interacts with the environment. The environment consists of the conditions, functionally and reciprocally defined, under which the species evolves (philogeny) and in which the individual develops (ontogeny) and functions.
