Abstract

This chapter discusses a grassroots-level effort in Korea that helped to spur a highly acclaimed development trajectory, with much success as a community-led initiative in rural villages. Poverty has been reduced and community well-being enhanced via programs for greater gender equality and income generation. Saemaul Undong has become a model adopted by other nations for improving community well-being, not just in economic terms but also in social terms.
