Abstract

Benign metastasizing leiomyoma is an extremely rare condition, when high-diff erentiated smooth muscle tissue spreads beyond the uterus, including lungs, breast, lymphatic nodes, bones, liver, soft tissue of pelvis, central nervous system, skin, esophagus, trachea, appendix or heart. Lungs are most commonly aff ected in this disease, which may lead to respiratory failure. Benign metastasizing leiomyoma should be suspected in premenopausal women with metastatic foci in lungs, who had leiomyoma. Morphological investigation is crucial in making diagnosis. Etiology and pathogenesis are unknown. Mostly the disease is asymptomatic, thus the disease is hard to reveal. Currently, there are no guidelines of diagnosis and treatment of this rare condition. Here we present a case report of benign metastasizing leiomyoma.
