Abstract

This article describes the development procedure and results achieved for a green laser cavity for 4W power output at 532nm wavelength based on a Diode Pumped Solid State Laser technology and Second Harmonic Generation. The main application of the designed cavity module is the development of a portable equipment for Retinal Photocoagulation that will be able to treat several kinds of eye diseases, such as: proliferative and non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, retinal tears, retinal hemorrhage, vein occlusion and Glaucoma. The cavity was designed in a "V" folded shape side pumped. The maximum power output reached for this cavity architecture was 4.0W for 2.0 seconds pulse duration and 3.0W for 4.0 seconds pulse duration, both cases with duty-cycle up to 50%. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.
