Cryosurgery for hemangiomas had its golden era between 1970 and 1990. Gilberto Castro-Ron popularized a compression technique of vascular components during freezing, which was amazingly successful. Lasers and systemic and topical drug approaches have reduced the interest in cryosurgery for hemangiomas. The method is not dead because in many countries expensive lasers and risky systemic drugs have not gained popularity over it.
