Abstract

Malignancies affecting the urinary system are being encountered with increasing frequency. A commonly encountered scenario is obstruction of the upper urinary tract as a consequence of advance malignancies. Here, the role of palliative therapy takes on an increasing importance in delivering optimal care in ensuring best quality of life for patients. Interventional radiology (IR) in this instance offers the option for urinary diversion through procedures, which may benefit the patients, and thus represents an important facet of a multidisciplinary team in managing such conditions. This chapter will focus on available solutions, in managing obstructions of the kidneys and urinary bladder.
