Abstract

the history of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a diagnostic and conceptual entity is reviewed, followed by sections describing PTSD prevalence, demographics, development, course, and severity / the theoretical bases behind each PTSD treatment orientation are described [psychodynamic, behavioral, and psychopharmacological] / published work involving these treatments for particular trauma groups is reviewed with a critical eye toward treatment benefits a section is then provided to discuss an emerging area of interest in PTSD research: eye movement desensitization / the comparative efficacies of extant PTSD treatments are summarized (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
