Introduces some of the articles in this issue of Psychology Learning & Teaching. One article explores issues around the teaching of systematic observation and observation skills and presents data that will allow departments to evaluate their own practice in relation to other departments. Two papers report interventions early on in the student experience that can support student learning and a third investigates the relationship between group work and personality type. Another article provides the results of some preliminary work that suggests potential gender differences in orientation to academic study. Finally, one article provides evidence that assessment modality, computer anxiety and computer engagement have little effect on multiple choice question tests scores.
