Abstract

The basic helix-loop-helix proteins are dimeric transcription factors that are found in almost all eukaryotes. In animals, they are important regulators of embryonic development, particularly in neurogenesis, myogenesis, heart development and hematopoiesis. © 2004 BioMed Central Ltd.
