Several studies have found that the military institution has not received enough consideration, both in its entirety, and internally, in its various categories of personnel. This article aims to establish a program which could implement for the army the conceptual framework provided by the sociology of recognition, through its three classical concepts of identity, vulnerability, and invisibility. The collective and individual forms of such expectations of recognition are studied both in their structural and historical foundations as well as in their connection with the organizational and operational reality of the military institution. The various issues they finally uncover raise questions about the limits one should give to their specific expressions.
