The purpose of this study is to examine the achievements and limitations of the recent curriculum reforms in Korean universities. For this purpose, first, this study reviews the concept of competence, which is the core concept of the reforms. In particular, this study examines two aspects of competence for focusing on the human resources and human rights. Second, it tries to analyze the specific achievements and limitations of the curriculum reforms through the case studies of three universities that recently reformed their curriculum. Finally, this study proposes the direction taken by curriculum reforms in Korean universities.
