Abstract

We present a concept for the simulation of the fluid flow in the semicircular canals of the inner ear. Based on the temporal dynamics of an idealized model configuration we formulate the governing equations and devise a strategy for their numerical solution. We analyze the proposed method and find a numerical instability. This instability is characterized by an error bound which can serve as a guideline for tuning the numerical method to the specific boundary conditions. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
